Urban Gardening

Nakapatay na ako ng sili, rosemary at cactus :hihi: Any tips on easy, no fail plants?

Frustration ko to. Dati pati succulents at snake plant namamatay sa akin. Naka ilang lavender plant ako, deds lahat (though mabango pa din yung dried leaves).

So far, success story ako sa pothos. Naka 1yr na at napropagate ko na din. Spider plant is also hard to kill :joy: peace lily is very forgiving.
Ang medyo maselan na meron ako now is selloum.

After ECQ, gusto ko mag calamansi.

Every few days or so, dinadadagan ko lang ng tubig, and drops or plant vitamins.

:hahaha:

Malunggay rin parang weed na puno.

+1 sa basil. And also mint! Puwede pa for cocktails.

Basil! Old condo had a planter so marami-rami basil namin. Ang saya gumawa ng pesto. For a while, halos lahat ng food nilalagyan namin ng basil :joy: was also able to grow bell pepper at green onions.

After a while, namatay yung mga basil namin though. Some kind of fungi. Inatake naman ng aphids yung green onions (I don’t know how they got to the 10th floor )

Green thumb here :twothumbs:

Basil is easy to grow. You can avail grow kits online. Loves the sun. Be sure to trim so the stem doesn’t become woody, and the leaves bitter. Best to harvest in the morning!

Calamansi - buy a grafting because starting from seed will take a long time, and then transfer directly sa ground. If that’s not possible, place in a large container and feed it regularly with compost. It loves full sun. Regular watering.

Hi! I’ve been doing urban gardening since circa 2014. Dati sa windowsill and balcony lang (andami kong lupain. sa paso) but since 2018, may small terrace and micro-vegetable patch na (kakatanim ko lang ng mga seeds–broccoli, radish, carrots, cucumber, squash) pero wait and see kung may tutubo).

So far my hardiest herbs:

  1. basil
  2. thyme
  3. mint
  4. coriander (from cuttings then sa tubig lang. nung nilagay ko sa soil, namamatay e)
  5. dill (masarap pa with salmon!)
  6. parsely

Then for veggies:

  1. spinach
  2. Japanese greens (4 different kinds)
  3. Kohlrabi (hindi ko pinansin o hinarvest last year. So I ended up with thousands of seeds  )

Nagsili and kamatis ako noon. pero after giving me 2 rounds of harvest, ala na. Deads.

If you want free webinars for growing vegetables at home, here is a good source:

They actually have a few last week you can still watch.

Itong lockdown, I started my urban garden. Yung isang co-member ko sa aming women’s club eh may sobrang cherry tomato plants. Eh naisip ko laging tomatoes, basil, mint, parsley yung ginagamit ko kakaluto ng pasta so I told that lady I’m interested. I asked for 4 pots, she gave me 6.

Waiting for it na mamunga na.

Dati din we had some house plants when one of my friends moved back to the US. They died after I gave birth. !

Summer kaya ang dami naming napipitas from our calamansi plants though masipag sila mamunga year round. Half-way pa lang ako sa pag-harvest niyan at malapit na mapuno yung timba. This photo was taken late Feb, at naka-ilang harvest na uli kami since then. As I mentioned up there^^^ best to start with grafted ones

We also have atis trees, namumunga rin ngayong summer. Again, binili rin namin as grafting then lipat sa lupa.

Guyabano, also a grafting. Never pa kami nakakuha ng successful fruit dito. Maybe there’s someone who can give me tips?

Yung dati kong basil genovese. Hope to plant basil again soon after we are liberated from this pestilence.

Pag avocado season na, try mo rin i-germinate yung seed using the tusok-toothpick-babad-sa-tubig scientific method as pictured above. Medyo mas malaki na yung avocado plant namin ngayon compared to photo on the right.

Ang ganda ng basil mo! So far, my basil has started to sprout na.

I added a new succulent in the collection. Yung dating mug ni hubby (nasira yung handle) ginamit kong pot. Cute siya in fairness.

Ini-imagine ko lang pero nakukyutan na ko! Never tried taking care of a succulent before. Has any of yours flowered na?

It kind of goes against my plan to wait for the ones I’m growing eh.

I leave my plants outside and water once a month (every wk or bi-monthly pag summer, depende kung kelan tuyo na ang lupa). Basta general rule is water only when the soil is dry.

Never actually thought of planting it until now. Pano nga ba?
Yung ginger I’ve read na antagal-tagal daw bago maka-harvest, pero I guess it’s worth the wait!

:rotfl:

On topic - try ko yun libre seeds sa BPI Visayas Ave

I want you guys to see my urban gardening helpers below! Mukha akong ewan yesterday afternoon: staring at our calamansi trees (which are in full bloom right now!), standing still and waiting for the right moment to snap a pic of the jolly bees :embarasslaff:

Nagkaron ng scale insects yung ilang leaves/branches (as seen in the background), but I’m trying to stop it’s further spread.
