True, my friend who has Filipino parents but was born here in Canada gets annoyed when our other friends call him Filipino. He’a not daw. I thought he was being ridiculous but when I asked him about it he says he has never set foot in the Philippines and doesn’t identify with the Filipino experience. Sure he eats Filipino food and knows some words but it’s only up to that.

Hindi ako naaamaze sa amazing aloha.
I don’t get the point of clubs and dancing in a stuffy room which reek of cigarette smoke while imbibing alcohol (and/or amid people also gyrating and imbing alcohol). I tried to get into that and the last time I was in an actuaö club (in Japan almost 10years ago), I felt silly in the middle of it all, immediately stopped dancing, walked out, hopped in a taxi, and went home.
Never found Dolphy (+) funny. Never liked or appreciated Tito, Vic, and Joey.
Hindi ko gets ang allure or whatever you call them ng Sexbomb dancers circa year 2000+ (sorry @arkaell )

Meritocracy is myth. Most of your success is due to luck. So many people started in the same place as you, worked as hard if not harder than you, but never got anywhere because they never got the lucky break you did. Hard work is a necessary but not sufficient condition for success (unless you have rich parents, in which case you’re golden either way).

True. But for me, even her writing is overrated. For me, her pieces are what I like to call “literary masturbation”. It’s needlessly verbose and overly eloquent. It detracts from the story she wants to tell. Parang ang lumalabas tuloy, it becomes more about the way she tells it rather than the story itself. Which is inherently not bad at all — if she was writing fiction.
Tapos meron pa yung “pioneer of creative non-fiction” chuva when she was still starting out which was essentially literary journalism na noon pa ginagawa nina Pete Lacaba, Nick Joaquin, etc.
She only became noteworthy because the industry is still populated by old fogies who write too long and lack the flair new readers like. I will give her props for getting into the thick of things though - another thing most good writers (along with those old fogies) don’t do.
But again as a writer - she’s grossly overrated.

Di ako pumapatol sa mga challenge challenge sa social media. I dont care kung para saan yan kahit pa about cancer awareness breastfeeding or celebrating mothers or some other important issue. Its such a useless gesture. Parang one like or AMEN one prayer. It does nothing. It doesnt help anyone. It’s placebo for the mindless. Often it’s just another excuse to post selfies. Most of the time it’s virtue signalling and I’m guilty enough of that already.

Naiinis ako na may “unpopular” sa opinion na hindi pareho sa opinion ng karamihan. kung tutuusin opinion lang naman pareho. Tapos ima-mob ka pa dahil lang iba yung pagtingin mo sa mga bagay bagay. Parang gusto nila isubo sa iyo opinyon nila.
