So lesson siguro maningil muna bago makipag break

SKL tho. While we have our credit rating regulators, banks do not necessarily follow it. (Not sure with smaller FIs) Aside na hindi pa talaga on-par yung system with other countries, hirap din talaga kasi we are a nation na hindi pa talaga nagbabangko yung significant part ng population.

Kung di nagbayad for quite some time, yun, bad credit standing na. Kahit nasettle mo on a latter period of time, di na mabubura record mo. Usually sa cards to.

So morale of the story to new grads: make use of loans properly.

:rotflmao:

Save as much as you can. Pero wag kakalimutan to reward yourself kahit paano.

Treat your credit card na parang debit card–when you spend it, isipin nyo gumagastos din kayo ng cash (for instance, you have 10k on you. after you swipe 1k on your credit card, isipin nyo 9k na lang ang pera nyo).

As much as possible, bumili ng big purchases (like gadgets) in cash.

:twothumbs: ako kay @davemucho about insurance. oks kumuha habang bata ka.

Hangga’t maaari, track your expenses. It’s not super specific pero may naka-allot lang sa particulars like investments, travel funds, bills, allowance at luho fund

keep an eye towards establishing more than one income stream.

aside form your employee salary which we’ll call Earned Income, there are also;

  1. Interest – from a variety of loans, either to individuals (peer to peer lending or private notes) or companies (bonds, notes)
  2. Dividends – from investments, partnerships
  3. Capital Gains – from the sale of investments
  4. Royalties – from products you sell or license
  5. Rental Income – from real estate
  6. Business Income – which may or may not be passive but the idea is you build something that generates income without active work, like a website or the sale of information products

Be generous to yourself first. Wag masyadong mabait ang magpautang palagi.

Pay your credit card in full. Set aside 40-50% of your income to savings.

^ Agree. And to add, never buy it through credit card if you can’t buy it in cash.

i prefer buying with my credit card/s whenever possible.
but i never buy anything that i can’t pay for in cash.

I almost never use cash if a merchant accepts credit cards. With prevalence of contactless it makes it a lot easier. I love credit card hacking/churning and paying for travel with entire CC points.

Similar to @Jane. Since puro contactless naman why not make our cards work for us? So sa amin, lahat ng bayarin na possible ilagay on the credit cards like groceries, baby’s needs, mobile and internet payments, household stuff, kahit insurance, we put on our cards to earn points. Then pay in full palagi, no ifs, no buts.

By doing this lots of our son’s new things including some pretty pricey ones, we got for “free” because of the rewards. Before him, we were also able to use rewards for travel, so “free” flights, discounted hotel rooms, etc.

A few things though:

Siyempre like all others said before, kailangan lang talaga discipline and awareness of every transaction. Thou shalt not be tempted to spend more than your budget; thou shalt not treat your credit card as cash on hand.

Choose your cards carefully, see alin ang sulit sa fees or better yet find those na nag-ppromo ng walang fees or wine-waive ang fees for the first year or two. Then afterwards hanap ulit ng panibagong mas ok ang promo. Hehe.

Also, be wary of places that charge a bit more / add a percentage for credit card payments (di ko sure if applicable sa Pinas pero dito may places na ganun) so kung hindi worth it ang point sa extra na bayad wag na i-card yun.

What is better for credit cards? Points or cashbacks?

^I realized cashbacks work better for me kasi automatic ang deduction, so I don’t need to exert extra effort to inquire about/ assess/ do calculations for, choose, and claim rewards points na minsan luho lang talaga ang mga nasa catalogue…

But then again, it depends on the deals offered by your CC (amazing din minsan ang deals) and the % you’re getting from the transactions… I’m just looking at opportunity cost, and cash is still king

For a fresh grad:
IPON IS LIFE

Live within or even below your means.

My late mom gave me an extension credit card nung college, she used it and then siningil ko minimum lang binigay sa akin! Nag-away kami nun until she gave me the full amount she used because even noon pa, galit ako sa utang. The lesson here is get a debit card kung pahirapan sa pagbayad ng credit card. With a debit card, you’ll be a little more disciplined kasi kaltas agad eh.

Get insurance early din.

Joint accounts are a true test of trust between you and your partner. Even now I’m married for a couple of years, I don’t have a joint account with my husband. (1) the country where we live doesn’t offer joint accounts in banks especially to foreigners and (2) we still have a ton of paperwork to finish before we could have our joint account (3) if it (our current financial set up) ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

If you’re planning to get married, please get a PRENUP lalo na if you have invested a lot under your name na.

Don’t blow all of your savings on travel. I think I spent at least 1M php on travel before I got married and settled down. If I had invested all that money instead, it could be upwards of 3M by now.
