Musicals

What’s your favorite musical / song sa musical? Ano yung gusto mong mapanuod pag nag-run sa city nyo?

Musical, overall, I really like Hamilton. Walang moment na boring. Galing ng mga songs. :aprub:

But my favorite song is “she used to be mine” from Waitress. Di ko pa ‘to napapanood kasi when it was showing, iba pinanuod namin (na hindi maganda)

Looking forward din sa film version ng In the Heights (Lin Manuel rin). At sana makapanuod ng Dear Evan Hansen :slightly_smiling_face:

I would love to see Waitress, I love the songs and I’m a big Sara Bareilles fan, was hoping she’d win at the Tony’s, pero kasi Hamilton ang kalaban. Anyway, bonus na rin if the lead happens to be Sara again  Esp if si Jason Mraz ulit yung lead actor :hyper: Big Sara-Jason fan so biased ako kahit first-time nila mag-musical.

Sayang hindi ko rin napanood yung Pinoy local staging ni Joanna Ampil, di ako nakauwing Pinas that time

She used to be mine - I love listening to different versions, syempre sa orig ako Sara B, pero Jessie Mueller goosebumps.

off topic- pinagpalit ko yang waitress sa jesus xt superstar :disappointed: and it was still sara’s run. have you seen the film version of waitress? Ok rin. pero wala songs

on topic: maganda nga daw Aladdin. di ko inabutan. sa local runs, we always watch Rak of Aegis except this last season :slightly_smiling_face:

Diko pa napanood movie, hmmm mukhang I’d like it only with songs haha

+1 to Rak of Aegis :jumpclap:
Si Kim Molina naabutan ko years ago, pero hope mapanood ko version ni Aicelle Santos

Speaking of Aicelle… Lea Salonga was raving about Himala, I wanna see din sana may re-run

Ohmigod! I love Waitress, too! Favorite ko rin ang She Used to Be Mine and, yes, goosebumps talaga ang performance ni Jesse Mueller!

I am a massive fan of musicals! I really love them, but if I had to choose my most favorite, it would most definitely be Fun Home. :100:

Dami kong favorite na songs mula sa mga musical pero one songs comes to mind at this particular moment, ‘yung For Good from Wicked.

Been watching and re-watching Take Me to the World: A Sondheim 90th Birthday Celebration mula nang i-stream sa YouTube 2 days ago. Adik lang! :embarasslaff:

Saw the touring edition of Book of Mormon, I’ve always been a big fan of Trey Parker and Matt Stone. You can see the South Park influences - like satirizing/parodying of the Mormons.

Ako lang ba or nakakaantok talaga ibang parts sa Cats? Haha!

Bucketlist ang Hamilton. My daughter has practically memorized the entire soundtrack though. Wish nya na maging gift ko raw sa kanya makanood ng Hamilton either sa US or London.

Phantom of the Opera and Rent. Super in love pa rin ako, lalo na sa Rierra  Yun nga lang, di ko talaga trip ang sequel niya na Love Never Dies. Parang ang daming mali. In fair, ang ganda ng Til I Hear Her Sing saka Beauty Underneath. Pero :nono: yung story.

Sa Rent, orig cast pa rin. Pero unpopular opinion, bet ko yung movie version nina Mimi at Joanne (Rosario Dawson and Tracy Thoms).

Gusto ko pa rin mapanood ang Hadestown and Wicked on stage.

Local naman, I liked Mabining Mandirigma a lot!

Nakalimutan ko: Rak of Aegis!

:rotfl:

  1. Les Miserables. Our dad loved playing his Les Mis soundtrack CDs so medyo familiar na yung songs then I was able to watch a Repertory Philippines (not sure) production when I was in elementary, na-enjoy ko maybe because I knew the songs na.

  2. Sound of Music. Watched it because we had to do a presentation nung highschool.

  3. Annie.

  4. Counted ba ang Little Mermaid & Beauty & the Beast?

  5. I like the songs ng The Greatest Showman too.

Sinubukan kong manood ng Phantom sa YouTube recently, na-bore ako :embarasslaff: Hindi talaga for me hehe.

Ang naalala ko dito was the catchy tune ng “Vosotros… Illustrados…” :hihi:

Yung dream sequence mukha sya talagang dream sequence on stage!

Next is Wicked.

I also watched Joanna in Cats and medyo anticlimactic sya for me as Grizzabella. Shoshana Bean - best version ng she used to be mine.

Local - Sa wakas. Super nagandahan ako yung first run. Huling El Bimbo for the shock value pero ang daming unnecessary parts kasi nung play na yon, sayang! At tsaka bakit parang overrated for me yung rak of aegis?

Baliktad naman tayo. I dont like Huling El Bimbo for some reason. Ako lang yata :uhoh:

Miss Saigon, agree! When I watched it hindi ko alam na magpapakamatay pala si Kim, so atungal ako sa dulo. Tapos sa London ako nakanuod nun, mega sing along ako with the actors, to my seatmates’ disgust

I’m probably one of the few people that don’t like Hamilton. I tried to like the songs, I really did. Pero hindi talaga.

Other popular musicals I didn’t like so much: Wicked and Spring Awakening, pati na rin mga stuff by Andrew Lloyd Weber.

The things I like are mostly by Stephen Sondheim - Into the Woods, Company, Sweeney Todd, etc.

I also like Hairspray, Book of Mormon, 50th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Avenue Q, and Sa Wakas.

still milking it, still drinking it… for a good cause

I forced myself not to sing. Medyo nakakahiya kasi. Kasama ko pa nanay at tatay ko eh medyo nagcoconcentrate sila manood kasi first time nila.

Watched both Cats and Phantom. While ok yung performances, parang di ako namomove ng stories. Haha

I feel exactly the same way. Yung Cats (even before that weird, horrible excuse for a a movie) I tried, parang novelty lang yung appeal nya sa akin. Songs were meh. Same with Jesus Christ Superstar, parang dadaanin ka lang sa “shock” value, but once you get over the whole “Ay, so brave, so controversial, ginawan nya ng musical si Jesus” feeling, it loses its appeal. Phantom I liked the songs, but overall I found it underwhelming - although to be fair, the book was the same, at least for me.

^Didn’t even attempt to watch Cats the movie. Good thing di nasayang oras ko hahaa.
