Let me start by saying being anti-Aguinaldo does not mean anti-Philippines. On the contrary, I think it’s the other way around.

My primary source of information is Wikipedia, and as some of you might have already known, it’s bias central and not really a reliable source of information. So if there are any Philippine history expert here who could clarify what I am about to state here, please do so. First off, a bit of history.

When Andres Bonifacio formally established the Katipunan, he asked his wife to create its banner. (see below)
The original flag of the revolution
I don’t know whoever designed the eight rayed sun , but it was apparently adopted by both Mariano Alvarez and Emilio Aguinaldo, as seen below.
Magdiwang flag lead by Alvarez(left) and Magdalo flag lead by Aguinaldo
Whoever made the eight rayed sun design probably thought it would be perfect to use it as the symbol for the eight provinces in revolt, and looks nice as it has symmetry and all that. Although initially there were only 8 provinces in revolt, later on, more provinces joined the fight against the Spaniards, such as Panay, Tarlac, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan, Bicol and Mindanao. The most probable reason why the sun of the revolution got stuck with eight rays is because of practicality and convenience; it would be a logistical nightmare to update each and every revolutionary flag every time a new province joined the fight. Bonifacio probably realized this design flaw so he chose to instead use a numerous, indefinite number of rays for his new flag of the revolution (see below). Either that or he actually counted 16 provinces in revolt, but I don’t think so.

After Aguinaldo ordered the murder of Bonifacio (which caused the ensuing demoralization of the Filipino troops and divide amongst the revolutionaries), he and those remaining loyal to him retreated in the now famous Biak-na-Bato. Here they delusionally declared their very own Republic of Aguinaldoland, err I mean, Republic of Biak-na-Bato and they used the eight rayed sun with a constipated smiley face in their flag (see below). Gee, I wonder who suggested that. It was probably Aguinaldo who thought of that while taking a poo. But why so fast Aguinaldo, the Philippines isn’t even free yet from the Spaniards? So hungry for power, he couldn’t wait to be new king of the Philippines.

From this you can now surmise that the eight rayed sun with a constipated smiley face has become the mark of Aguinaldo. A month and a week later after the establishment of his new kingdom, cornered and with the threat of death looming, Aguinaldo surrendered Aguinaldoland to the Spaniards with the condition he would be safely allowed to go on vacation to Hong Kong with pocket money, leaving behind his sheeple to die. Fuck you Aguinaldo!

While on vacation still dreaming of Aguinaldoland, he made a flag.

It’s a good thing though that it was the Americans who freed us from the Spaniards. Who knows what kind of government Aguinaldo would set up. An excerpt from here:
When Aguinaldo arrived from Hong Kong, he brought with him a copy of a plan drawn by Mariano Ponce, calling for the establishment of a revolutionary government. Upon the advice of Ambrosio Rianzares Bautista, however, an autocratic regime was established instead on May 24, with Aguinaldo as dictator.
It was under this dictatorship that independence was finally proclaimed on June 12, 1898 in Aguinaldo’s house in Kawit, Cavite. The first Filipino flag was unfurled and the national anthem was played for the first time.
Apolinario Mabini, Aguinaldo’s closest adviser, was opposed to Aguinaldo’s decision towards a dictatorial rule. He instead urged for the reformation of a government that could prove its stability and competency as prerequisite. Aguinaldo refused to do so; however, Mabini was able to convince him to turn his autocratic administration into a revolutionary one. Aguinaldo established a revolutionary government on July 23.

History is decided by the winners. But who were the victors? Was it Aguinaldo or the Filipinos? Whose victory was it anyway? Who is he to decide for us? He wasn’t even the reason why we were liberated from the Spaniards. In my book he was buffoon. He reminds me of Erap. It was General Antonio Luna who was the brilliant one, but Aguinaldo ordered his murder so he could remain the king of Aguinaldoland, oh wait, it was already the Republic of the Philippines. Fuck you Aguinaldo!

An excerpt from here:
On June 2, 1899, a telegram from Aguinaldo was received by Gen. Antonio Luna, a disciplinarian and brilliant general and looming rival in the military hierarchy, asking him to proceed to Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija for a meeting at the Cabanatuan Church Convent. However, treachery was afoot. Three days later (June 5), when Luna arrived, he learned Aguinaldo was not at the appointed place. As Luna was about to depart, he was shot, then stabbed to death by Aguinaldo’s men. Luna was later buried in the churchyard; no investigation was made, and Luna’s assassins were never punished.

After Luna’s assassination, Aguinaldo assumed command of the Filipino forces. Without Luna’s military expertise, Filipino forces encountered disaster everywhere. In November 1899, Aguinaldo and his staff fled northwards from the advancing Americans, to Palanan, Isabela, where he established a new headquarters. A picked force of 60 men under General Gregorio del Pilar fought a
heroic battle
at Tirad Pass against a much larger American force to delay the American advance to ensure Emilio Aguinaldo’s escape. Del Pilar was killed in the battle along with 52 others of the defending force.
Less than two years later, on March 23, 1901, Aguinaldo was captured at his headquarters in Paanan by U.S. General Frederick Funston, with the help of Macabebe trackers. The American task force gained access to Aguinaldo’s camp by pretending to be captured prisoners. Aguinaldo was confined at Malacanang Palace in what is today’s State Dining Room. On April 19, 1901, Aguinaldo took an oath of allegiance to the United States, formally ending the First Republic and recognizing the sovereignty of the United States over the Philippines.
To me, the current flag of the Philippines is a reminder of betrayal, treachery, politicization, and power mongering that has marred the Philippine politics a hundred years ago and still does today. I will never commit the sin of deciding by myself what kind of flag should we use today (you misunderstood my original post). You can choose whatever flag our country should have, as long as we as a nation choose it. I don’t care about the flag anymore. I would rather salute the spirit of the Philippines behind the cloth with red, white, and blue colors marked with three stars and a sun minus the constipated smiley face.

tl;dr Fuck you Aguinaldo!
