And I always thought being talkative was a syndrome of cheerful people. :)
If I may add: Humor is biology. Humor is neuroscience. Humor is sociology. Humor is psychology. Humor is art. Humor is science. etc.

Humor is.

simply put, you just have to let it be.

^ I disagree. It’s a question that presents itself naturally to philosophical (even scientific) inquiry. It is a phenomenon of interest to the psychologist and the philosopher. The primary motivation of course is the interesting part that humor plays in the lives of men. Consider humor as therapy, as element of style, as culture etc. It merits investigation not just because of its universality but because it is an interesting element of the human condition. And I am thankful that Kant didn’t let things “be” as you suggested. :)

I’m sorry TS, I just read a few lines from your first post, skipped all of your other replies and read everyone else’s.

aren’t the best things in life are those not planned? @ ts, most funny things are funny because they happened spontaneously =)

@sleeping: magjojoke rin sana ako eh. kaso pagkabasa ng intro ni TS, bigla kong naisip yung Finding Nemo.

so theres this mollusk and he walks up to sea cucumber.. :rotfl:

shin_chan! apir!

@TS: so to clear things here, this thread is solely for the discussion of What Makes Funny Things Funny?

@cha_cha: :hahaha: mapapahiya tayo niyan.

finding things to be funny, i guess, depends on one’s knowledge or background surrounding the origin of a joke. For example,

shin_chan:

cha_cha:
so theres this mollusk and he walks up to sea cucumber.. :rotfl:

nabuhay ang dugo ko bigla :rotfl:

if one doesn’t know a thing about what cha_cha posted, that person won’t respond the way shin_chan did.

(buti pwede ko pa iedit ito)
other people’s deviant behavior may also elicit laughter from the adherents of sociological norms and vice versa. iskoisko2 is a very good example. i don’t need to explain further. :)

Interesting topic. I suggest the book Plato and a Platypus Walk into a Bar. It is a preview of Philosophy and its different branches briefly explained through jokes. Bought mine in Powerbooks. Small orange book. Nice read.

CherryBomb

ironic nga ang title sa mga pinagsusulat ni TS.
Humor does not need to be deeply defined because the more you define it, the more you lose the true meaning of it. :D

some people have so many time in their hands..

gerrys_girl

^ you probably mean “so much time in their hands” ;)

onT: parang may naalala ako’ng lecture na ganito sa Anthro dati during my freshman year..Tama, humor may paint a certain culture, or culture sometimes dictates what’s funny and what’s not. this is interesting, to be fair, na-appreciate ko naman yung gustong pagdiskusyunan ni happyman kaso wala ako’ng gaanong useful/intelehenteng komento na maidadagdag :hihi: I probably have to read up on Kant! We don’t have to mock posters who attempt a smart discussion about something as seemingly so there as humor. It’s our mark as an isko/iska–yung never taking anything at face value, and treating any old inane thing as worth a second examination.

I think hindi naman ata pina dedefine yung Humor? Mr. happyman sounded like he was just soliciting for theories other than Kant’s kung kelan ang isang bagay masasabing “funny”. Ironic nga lang na wala ako gaanong ma-contribute about the topic, but this thread definitely got me on a research mode! :aprub:

The fact that I actually copleted reading the first post is a joke in itself. A humorous one, I might add.

copleted? anlalim, shet…

o, tapos na mga intro, joke time na!
